Thanks to Bob, our families, RT, Rocky, TSDS, and Chris Frank (the mayor of e-folk village -- see efolkmusic.com) Nineteen years. We were just getting married and having children back when Rebecca and Keith met at a party and got the idea of forming the Hi-Tones. Rebecca had been playing swing music in clubs with our old bass player, Robert Truesdale. RT grew up hearing his father and uncle (a '30s swing bandleader) play "Dinah" on the banjolele and fiddle. Rebecca grew up singing show tunes around the piano with her mother. Keith cut his teeth on old time music in Galax WV. When the three of them brought in Bill and Michael to form the core of the band, we began to develop our sound. The recent (recent in 'Tone years') addition of George and Lindsay has added notes of considerable sophistication, and Ben has done a fine job of filling the gap created by RT's departure. The whole band gets happy when Lynn is on the bandstand. And we have been fortunate to work with other excellent musicians, like Chris and Heather. Now some of our children are about grown up, and we're still together, a family of sorts. 19 years of Tuesday night practices. 19 years of making the music we want to. Playing in Asheville through the heaviest hailstorm we'd ever seen. Sharing nights with the Indigo Girls at a little place called Halby's in Durham, North Carolina, and at the White Dot in Atlanta. Witnessing the lawn chair drill team perform during a break one night in St. Louis. Playing to the ole Wardogs in Midway, Georgia. All that time together gives us our own characteristic sound. And we're still friends. Just think, at the rate we're going, in another 19 years we'll be putting out our sixth CD/tape. :)
